CSCC President Addresses Rotary Club
by Bob Augustin Jr.
Columbia State Community College President Dr. Janet Smith was the guest speaker at the May 23, 2008 meeting of the Lawrenceburg Rotary Club. Dr. Smith is a native Tennessean and a graduate of Austin Peay University. Dr. Smith came to CSCC in February of this year after serving as a member of the faculty and later administration in community colleges in North Carolina, Kentucky and Arkansas.
Dr. Smith gave the Rotarians a multiple choice test (being a teacher, what else would she do?) on Columbia State Community College. Unfortunately, and not suprisingly, most of the club failed the test and will have to repeat the course next semester. Here are some of facts about CSCC that Dr. Smith presented to the club:
-
2,542 credited students were enrolled at CSCC in the 2007 Fall Semester
-
the average age of a CSCC student is 24.7 years
-
only 15% of CSCC students receive the Hope lottery scholarships
-
over 7,000 K-12 students attend CSCC cultural and other educational events every year
-
the most popular noncredit course at CSCC is Parenting for Divorcing Parents
-
the ratio of female to male students is 65:35
-
the annual tuition and fees at CSCC is $2,500
-
CSCC produces approximately 100 Registered Nurses annually
-
there are 12,000 degreed CSCC alumni
